It’s the New Year and the new me and all that…

But seriously, this year I really want to get myself out of my mum uniform and find my style again. Whilst I love my leggings & t-shirts I’m getting sick of wearing the same things over and over again. I’m having a huge clear out of my wardrobe to make space for some new winter wardrobe essentials.

Rather that shopping like I used to do in my 20s and just buying whatever caught my eye and never knowing what outfit to put together, I’m getting more focused on outfits and styling. I’m far from building a capsule wardrobe, I don’t think I could ever be that organised but I am actually thinking about my outfits more rather than grabbing the easiest or comfiest outfit.

Knee or thigh high

In winter I absolutely adore high boots, they are so easy to wear across so many different outfits plus they keep your legs super warm with a pair of big mum socks underneath. I love how they can dress up a simple outfit of leggings or jeans but also look stunning with a casual jumper dress. Plus being over 35 I’m thinking more about keeping warm on a night out so a pair of high boots with a dress looks gorgeous but also keeps the mum in me happy

Chelsea boots or ankle boots

These are a year round staple for me but they are perfect for winter. You can wear them in the rain or snow without your feet getting soggy plus they go with pretty much anything. I love a pair of Chelsea boots with thick black tights & a floral dress. I’ve just bought the stunning studded boots from ASOS as I’d worn my others out, and they only cost £14 in sale, yes 14! Total bargain.

Teddy coat

Teddy coats are everywhere at the moment and I love them, they just look so snug yet stylish, perfect for the school run. Although I did struggle to find one that actually suited me. I love the white/cream ones but they just made me look like a cross between Del Boy & a polar bear, not a good look. I did come across this gorgeous mustard yellow one in NEXT which was perfect for me.

Puffer coat

Again another winter staple we all need, but one that I really struggled with as well. I bought and sent back about three different ones from ASOS (thank God for Klarna pay later!) but just couldn’t find a style I like that didn’t make me look like I was wearing a duvet. In the end the hubby came to the rescue & suggested a Parka style as I’ve had Parka’s before that suited me. In the end I went for the gorgeous Brave Soul puffer coat that I totally love for the really cold days.

Jumper dress

Everyone needs a jumper or sweater dress in their wardrobe. It’s one of those pieces that can do you for the cosy comfy days worn with legging & UGGS or can be perfect for lunch out worn with boots.

Fluffy cardigan

I adore fluffy cardigans, not only are they amazingly comfy but they just look effortlessly chic. They can totally transform a jeans & t-shirt kind of outfit, or worn in the evening with a dress. I bought a stunning ‘coatigan’ for only £17 that has a zip half way down so it can be worn long or waist length, it’s amazing!

High waisted

Again the mum in me loves a high waisted pair of jeans, not only do they hide the mum tum but they stop you getting a draft around your back, I know total mum thing to say but it’s true. These are the kind of things I look for in jeans now, that and the fact that I just can’t pull of low rise jeans in my 30s.

Leather look

These have been my go to for a night out this winter, especially when we’ve just been going to the pub or a gig. They can look so stylish without being over the top dressy. I also love them with a pair of pumps & a t-shirt. And let’s not forget that the nice stretchy fabric can hide a world of sins whilst still looking fab.

Body suit

I didn’t think there would be a time again that I would wear bodysuits but they are the most amazing thing to wear in winter. Again, totally a mum thing for me but as they fasten underneath they smooth over a bit of a muffin top and keep you snug, warm and stylish. What more could a mama want. They are just so simple to wear underneath a shirt or a cardigan.

long sleeved t-shirt

I love a long sleeved t-shirt all year round, it will literally go with any outfit, tucked into a denim skirt or jeans, or worn underneath a gorgeous fur gilet. A simple tee can be dressed up or down depending on what you pair with it making it amazing value for money.

So these are my winter wardrobe essentials, some I’ve already bought and some are on my list to buy. What would be on your essential list?

This winter I’m definitely an ankle boots and baggy jumper type of woman. Leggings or jeans added and I’m all sorted! Loving a chunky knit scarf too. Great choices! x

So many fab ideas! I have to admit that I’m wedged into my mum attire these days. But fluffy jumpers sound like a fab way of sprucing up the mum jeggings! Oh, and the boots. You can’t go wrong with those can you.

For me, its wellington boots and a big baggy jumper. I spend much of my days outside… style went out the window as soon as I picked up the gardening forks, hahaha!

I live in jumper dresses and leggings in the winter. I feel so cosy in them and comfort is essential for me. Good luck with clearing out your wardrobe. I could never capsule either!

I’ve suddenly been massively in to capes this winter! They’re so easy to throw around me and wrap myself in. I think I much prefer winter fashion with all the layering we can do 🙂
