Being a mom isn’t easy – everyone knows that, but quite often their busy lifestyles mean that the attention that should be being paid to their health, just isn’t. A mom can do a million things at once on less than an hour sleep, with one hand holding a baby. But just because they are all a version of Wonder Woman, doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be worried about their health. Parents will always put the health of their children first, and that is how is should be, but no one should neglect their own health. So here are a few healthy hacks for the busy mom.
COOK IN BULK
A massive part of living a healthy life is to eat a balanced diet. Eating the right food can help to give you energy on days where you are completely worn out. But it’s those days when you really just don’t want to cook. So take an afternoon and cook some meals in bulk. Soup is incredibly easy make, and can easily be portioned and frozen. Whenever you make a meal, make a little extra and freeze it for those nights where you don’t want to cook. You can make baby food the same way and freeze it in ice cube trays – that way you only defrost what baby is going to eat.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but when you’re trying to get everyone ready and out of the house first thing in the morning, it can be so easy to forget to eat yours. So look at getting in breakfast shakes – there are so many options, from a wheatabix drink to oat based shakes.
Apps allowing you to contact a doctor at any time is a great step for moms. When you have a newborn, you can easily call your midwife, but for children, you have to wait for an appointment. So things like GPs powered by babylon can be an amazing thing for worried moms – just try not to overuse it.
If you feel like you don’t have enough time to do any exercise – think again! Exercising with your children can be so much fun. Baby-sise classes, with swimming and yoga among them, can be taken, or you can make your own routine and incorporate the pushchair into your workout. Forget running with weights, pushing a pram in front of you will be good enough. As your kids get older you can also look into sports and exercises for them , but there are still thinks like yoga and swim classes that you can do as a family.
KEEP OFF THE BAD STUFF
While you’re pregnant you give up drinking and smoking and focus on your diet, so that you can give your baby the best chance. But so many moms just stop doing all those good things the moment they have given birth. Those habits are great to hold onto – adapt of course, you don’t need to not drink ever, and you probably want to drop the food cravings.
