Your bedroom should be a sanctuary where you can escape from the chaos of the rest of the house, so it’s important you love how it’s decorated. Last month I shared how I transformed our bedroom for under £100, by saving money in some areas you can bring luxury into your bedroom in other ways. The best way to brighten up any room is with a lick of paint. If your room is a bit small, try a lighter shade or a pastel colour as these often give the illusion that a room is bigger. Neutral colours are good for creating a contemporary, relaxing atmosphere. If you want your room to be inviting then rich red tones and warm browns can create a warm and even romantic atmosphere. If you’re unsure of what colour to pick, think about the colours of the rooms that you feel most relaxed in. Then try recreating that relaxation in your bedroom.
A great way of bringing a bit of style into a bedroom is with a modern print wallpaper. Covering all the walls of your bedroom can make the room look too busy though and could stop you from getting a good night’s sleep. Try creating a feature wall by picking one wall and covering it in a stylish print. The best wall to do this on is often the one behind your headboard as it won’t distract you whilst you sleep.
I love a feature wall and have used wallpaper in this way throughout the house, it made such a difference to our old, dreary staircase and created a bright & welcoming room instead.
Of course the most important part of any bedroom should be the bed. Indeed it should be nice and comfy, but the frame should match the rest of your room. If your bed doesn’t match the style of your walls and furniture, there’s no way of hiding it as it dominates the room and can spoil all the effort you’ve gone to. Bedstar has one of the biggest range of beds online to match any room and budget. Pick one where the frame matches your furniture for the perfect finish your room. We opted for a classic leather bed to match some of our existing furniture style and gave the whole room a luxury feel.
If you’re looking to redecorate your bedroom you should think about treating yourself to a new carpet, we haven’t the budget for this at the moment but it is high up on the to do list. The bedroom is the one place where you’re in your bare feet the most, so make sure you buy a soft, thick carpet which won’t be a shock to the system as soon as you get out of bed. For this reason try and avoid laminate flooring as it can be painfully cold on your feet during winter. If you do want laminate flooring though, make sure you get a nice rug where you can give your feet a break.
Finally finish off with some accessorising. Ikea shows how important the lighting is in the bedroom. Splash out on some lamps so you have a lot of different lighting options. Also consider investing in some scatter cushions that complement your duvet. You don’t always want to be laid down so these can transform your bed into an extra seating area by day for catching up on a brew & a book, well we wish!
