After having Brandon at age 19 my body literally pinged back into shape, I left the hospital in my size 8 jeans and never looked back. After having Archie at age 31 was a different story.
I know I’m by no means obese and don’t want to put too much focus on my weight but it just isn’t as easy now I’m in my thirties to keep in shape, I have to really work at it. After having Archie I joined the gym, ate healthily and was really happy with my fitness, my body shape, I was a size 10, my clothes fit me and I felt confident and happy. I loved going to the gym, it was the place that I could let off steam, if I was stressed I could hit the treadmill and let it all go. I loved the feeling of walking out of the gym completely knackered.
Then back in June I ended up in hospital having emergency surgery on my spine after loosing the feeling in my left leg. This obviously meant that the gym was no longer an option, I could barely walk let alone run or lift weights. I’m not happy with the weight I’ve put on, I’m now at my heaviest of 11 stone 4. I know I’m not huge but I no longer feel comfortable. My clothes don’t fit properly, the ‘mummy tummy’ is making a show again and I feel so sluggish from not exercising.
I still don’t have full feeling back in my leg and have lost a lot of flexibility but I feel so much better and am so ready to get back to the gym and eating properly. When I go to the gym it really motivates me to eat healthily as I don’t want to waste all the effort I’ve just put in. This is partly why I want to track my monthly progress publicly, it makes me accountable and will keep up my motivation so I’m taking the terrifying step of publishing my measurements, eeeek! I’m not going to focus too much on weight as when building muscle tone you may not seem much change in weight as your loosing fat but gaining muscle. After a year of going to the gym regularly I weighed more than when I started but I was slimmer and more defined so loosing inches, feeling better and eating healthier will be my focus.
So here’s my starting point:
