5 Things I needed from a blog makeover & why @gymbunnymum

I‘m making a lot of changes to my own lifestyle, getting back into the gym after my recent spinal op and continuing our healthy eating so I decided it’s about time I started on a blog makeover too.

I’ve had an idea in my mind for a while of the overall look I wanted, my old design was great but it needed refining a bit more to match my idea of what I want my little corner of the internet to be. I’ve even created myself a new logo, which I love.

Now I’ve been blogging a while I knew what key points I wanted from my design.

  1. A featured slider of gallery images at the top so I can showcase my latest posts or categories. At the moment I’m using some of my blog categories but I can easily change this to feature some of my favourite posts.
  2. A ‘blocky’ layout. By that I mean a more structured front page layout instead of a long list of posts. I want my readers to be to click on the posts that catch their eye rather than just the latest ones.
  3. A clean, simple look as I can’t stand messy layouts that are confusing to the eye. I like clear & concise but it has got to be pretty too!
  4. A feminine feel but not too ‘young & girly’, I am a mum in her thirties so I wanted something that fits with my style, that’s an extension of me.
  5. And finally I needed a design that can be flexible, that I can have a play around with and change if I get a little bored with it, as I know I will. My last design only lasted a year but I love my new design and am so happy with everything.

I’ll be writing another post in more detail about choosing the right layout & design for you but wanted to share my new beautiful design and the reasons behind it.

So what do you think? Do you love the new look?

I absolutely love the design of your blog. If I may recommend a little something extra, it would be to slightly increase the size of the main body font. It may sound crazy, but I tested changing your font size to 18px and it looks fab. <3

I love the layout and design of your blog. Can I ask where you got your template from? It really is stunning. I’m shopping around at the moment but I have soon so many that I like and I am not sure who is the best to go with etc #brillblogpost

Your blog looks amazing! I really love the sharp, clean lines yet somehow you make it feel feminine too – very clever. May I ask what template you use and where you got it from. It’s a really great one 🙂 Eb x

Thanks, that’s exactly what I wanted. Clean, minimal & professional but still really feminine & personal. It took a while to define what I wanted & how to get it!

Love it!! It really looks fab and so clean. I’m looking for templates at the moment that have all of the features you list, particularly the slider as it’s great to showcase some favourite and the snippet blocky page design – it’s much more user friendly! #thelist

I love the new design and layout! Looks really clean, professional and easy to navigate. It is very sleek and fresh looking. I have never bought a theme or anything for my blog and I am stuck on blogger so the plugins I can get are limited.xx #TheList

Love your new design – I really appreciate white space and I like the idea of clicking on something of interest rather than just the latest thing. I’ve recently put in a new header etc. but I maybe need to look more at layout. Food for thought – thanks!

Thanks so much. Yes, my latest posts are not always what people want to see, or what I want to focus on. I love the idea of categories on the home page so you can choose where to go next

Your new look is really nice! I recently changed mine too to try to make it look a little more professional while at the same time, still expressing my personality. I think I’m still working on it though, lol! Popping over from #thelist
