I love interior design. It is one of my passions, and I know from the fact so many of you spend a lot of time reading my Home & Interiors section that many of you enjoy it too.
If you are anything like me, you are always looking for fresh ideas, for the chance to try something new in your home. No doubt, you spend a fair amount of time leafing through home design magazines, visiting showhomes, and visiting home decor websites.
These are all great sources for inspiration, but they are not the only places you can turn to when you need an interior design fix. Here are four unusual places that you can turn to when you need home decor ideas.
1. HOME STAGING FIRMS
The first one is the websites of home staging companies. A great example of the type of site I am talking about is www.emblemfurniture.co.uk. This UK based company provides a range of services including home staging, interior design and a furniture rental service.
They provide the furnishing, accessories and soft furnishings for everything from private homes to luxury holiday apartments. As a result, there are hundreds of interior design photos on their website, which you can use to inspire you and give you home decor ideas.
2. INTERNATIONAL HOME DECOR SITES
Some of the best places to find something different are foreign home decor sites. You can find them by translating the term ‘interior design’ or ‘home decor’ into your chosen language, using Google Translate. You can then just cut and paste that search term into your local Google.
A better approach is to do use that country’s version of Google. For example, if you want Spanish home design ideas go to www.google.es, and use the search term “ideas de diseño de interiors”. Then all you need to do is to explore from there.
I also enjoy going to Buzzfeed and using interior design search terms. Doing this brings back posts and news that are trending across the web. It is a fantastic way to stay ahead of the curve, and find out what is exciting other home decor fans across the web.
4. HOME DECOR LIST POSTS
This last one is not actually that radical a source, but it is a good one. Using the terms “idea” in your search term is a great way to undercover list posts.
For example, the search term – living room “ideas”. What you get back is mostly list posts, which contain a huge amount of easily digested information.
If you want to stop yourself looking at the same posts repeatedly just do the following – On the Google search page, just click on the ‘search tools’ button, then click on the ‘any time’ dropdown menu, and select past month or past week, so you are only looking at the very latest posts.
I hope that you enjoy using these methods to find new inspiration for your home. There are other ways to do it, but these are the ones I like the best.
