Camoflage fondant the easy way because what’s the point in complicating things when you don’t have to eh? Here’s how to make a camouflage cake
If you’re a regular ready you probably already know I’m a self taught cake decorator with my own business, Handmade Queen. As I’ve learnt all I know from trial & error & a little bit of googling the simple solutions are often the best hence why I’ve started Cake Club featuring all the hints, tip & cheats I’ve found along the way.
1. To create the camo fondant just simply colour the fondant icing in a range of green & brown gel colour. Don’t try & use the supermarket liquid colours, it just won’t work with fondant icing. I used two shades of green and one brown and mixed & matched them together in various shades to make sure all the colours matched well together.
2. Once you’re happy with the colours tear up the fondant, don’t roll them into neat balls you want them odd shapes & sizes to create the camo effect.
3. Dust the worktop with cornflour or icing sugar. I use cornflour as it’s finer and works better for me but make sure you lightly dust! Then scoop the torn fondant together so they are close but not on top of each other.
4. Begin to roll the fondant out, if there are gaps just push it together from the sides and begin to roll again until it comes together like in the final photo above. Continue to roll until it is large enough to cover your cake.
5. And ta da! A fab Army, camoflage cake
