I couldn’t decide which cakes to share this weekend so I had a little look through my albums and instantly saw these pie and pizza cakes I made a while back and thought the were perfect for sharing on a Friday. Who doesn’t love a bit of comfort food at the weekend?
I was a little nervous how the ‘pie crust’ would turn out, I hoped the fondant icing would hold the shape I wanted and it looked fab. I decided to use edible petal dust to add a little texture to the pastry then realised this would also work well for the ‘chips’. Using a paint brush (one only used for food) the edges of the chips & pastry was dusted in a light brown colour to give a more realistic feel.
This pizza cake was really fun to make. Again I used the petal dust technique to give the crust a more realistic feel, then had to decide on the ‘toppings’. To create the cheese I literally grated some fondant icing being really careful with it so it kept the texture and didn’t ball back up together. I love how you can create something so different from icing & cake yet it still looks so realistic 🙂
I’m completely self taught, with a little help from YouTube and have had a few people ask me about putting tutorials up on the blog so at some point I will be adding a few How To’s & Hint’s & Tips so if there’s anything in particular you want to know then just leave me a comment.
