How epic is this Octonauts birthday cake & cupcakes?
Sometimes when I create a cake like this I can’t quite believe it was mine, that I actually made that, I’ve got to say I’m pretty damn proud of myself. I’ve definitely come a long way since starting my business Handmade Queen of Cakes three years ago.
This cake took absolutely ages but was well worth it to get the overall result. Apart from the three characters, everything else is fully edible, even the Gup-S Submarine.
I created the Gup-S out of a marshmallow/rice crispy mix which I moulded into shape with my hands, then covered in fondant once it had hardened. I tend to make most of my larger models in this way as making them completely out of fondant would be incredibly expensive but also very heavy and would damage the cake.
This is definitely one of the more detailed children’s cakes I’ve done but it’s the details that make it. Thomas’ mum told me he didn’t want to cut the cake and wouldn’t let her take it away when it was time for the kids to have their party food. He insisted on having it in front of him.
It’s feedback like that, that makes all the hours worth it.
What do you think? Would your little one love a cake like this? If you love this cake pop over and take a look at my other cakes.
