We’ve been promising to spend more time together as a couple, just us, to make time for us.
We have two boys, one with autism & special needs, plus a business and a busy home life means our focus tends to be on everything but us but we are working hard to change that.
This past weekend we took advantage of being child free for the morning and went out to breakfast. It gave me the chance to get out of my usual mum uniform of leggings but still wanted to keep it casual, to find the balance of looking good for a our little breakfast date but not over the top. My wardrobe, up to now, has been two types of outfits. Comfy staying at home clothes, or glam going out clothes, nothing in between so I’ve really struggled with what to wear.
So I’ve been trying to find my style recently, trying to figure out what suits me & what I need to stay away from, especially as I’m not a size 10 anymore. I’m now 36 but have no idea what to wear for my age & body style,. I’ve been stuck in my mum uniform of leggings and a t-shirt for so long, as I’m a work from home mama it has always been about comfort so I’ve kind of lost my way and completely forgot about fashion over 30.
I recently got these Chloe Coated Stretch Skinny Jeans from Simply Be but never thought to wear them as an everyday, off duty casual style. I always saw them as being a ‘night out’ kind of jeans but by pairing them with a slouchy knitted jumper and pumps they are perfect for a breakfast date.
They would look amazing with a t-shirt or a denim shirt too, by swapping my usual black leggings for these leather look jeans I can still pull off the comfy mum look but with extra style instead. I’m really looking forward to putting together more outfits with these jeans rather than leaving them just for a (very rare) night out.
They really are a great swap for my usual leggings as they are just so surprisingly comfy. Plus they have a high waist which is perfect for the mum tum, and they are super stretchy so there’s no muffin top either.
I really feel like I’m getting excited about fashion again. Fashion doesn’t have to be left to the under 30s, us busy mums can still find our style. I’ve realised that it doesn’t have to take a major effort to look good. Just a few tweaks to my wardrobe and thinking differently about how to put outfits together will make a huge difference for me.
