For the past few years I’ve pretty much ignored fashion & gone for the comfy option. You can’t run around after kids in your gorgeous heels, and you don’t want the toddler to splash food all down your new top so before you know it you end up with a Mum uniform.
The same style of clothes you reach for day after day, not really taking much notice or putting in much effort. And I’ve had enough, I’ve lost myself somewhere along the way, putting all my effort into everyone else and forgetting about me.
I want to focus more on fashion over 30 on the blog but it’s a step outside my comfort zone. When you think about fashion & style blogs you think about the model types, the young, skinny girls with the perfect make-up, not a 35 year old mum with bags under their eyes.
It feels so strange to be photographed, almost self indulgent and totally embarrassing, I’ll be honest I felt like a total knob. But I’m pushing myself past it. I will have more confidence in finding my style again, and I will start to feel more confident in front of the camera.
I shared the below photo over of my Instagram and my finger was hovering over that button for a long time before I decided to post it but I got such a great reaction both on Instagram & Facebook that I can’t wait to try out another look soon.
I’m not about to start dressing like a 20 something but I am going to find my style again and get myself out of my leggings & jumpers. My halfway house at the moment is a slogan tee & skinny jeans. It’s comfy but stylish, the best of both worlds.
I recently ordered a few T-shirts from Shein.co.uk, they are cute & easy to wear plus they are super cheap too. The black one I’m wearing was only about a fiver!
The gorgeous Ochre Borg Jacket from NEXT (£52) is my new favourite wardrobe staple, it’s nothing like I’d normally go for. In fact I originally bought a different one from NEXT but decided it wasn’t quite me so dragged the hubby with me to exchange it for a different one & to give me a second opinion, as soon as I saw this jacket I loved it & so did he so win win all round! It looks amazing dressed up or down with jeans, I think this will be in my wardrobe for a few years.
I’m looking forward to making more time for myself & putting a bit more effort into me and especially looking forward to writing more about fashion & beauty on the blog. Roll on 2018, the year of This Mama Style!
