Since I wrote my last post on my five health & fitness goals I haven’t really been able to get to the gym regular, family life has just gotten in the way and due to the rubbish weather, A & I haven’t been able to get out for our long walks although we did manage a very successful swimming session with no tears from either of us!. Whilst we haven’t been eating badly either, I haven’t exactly been as strict with myself. After last night’s fab gym session I felt great, less stressed & more motivated to get myself well & truly back on the wagon. Getting to the gym really helps with my stress & anxiety levels.
So a little update on my last set of goals… I haven’t exactly achieved any of them 🙁
#1 To swap to green tea
I have really been trying with this but I’ve just been able to bring myself to finish a full cup, however I have now discovered Skinny Minny tea by Blue BirdTea Co which is actually really yummy so I may actually be able to move onto tolerating other teas now I’ve gotten used to drinking this one.
#2 Be able to run 2K in one session
After not being out walking with A in the buggy recently or regularly getting to the gym I actually surprised myself by achieving 25 mins on the treadmill last night. This was a combination of all out running, jogging and face paced walking so even though I’ve not hit my goal of running 2K consistently in one session I definitely think I’ll get there.
#3 Increase my strength training
Because my back has been playing up (I have a tear in one disc & another is protuding just above my tail bone) I haven’t been able to use the weights recently but as it’s been feeling better throughout last week & I’ve been able to reduce my painkillers I did a light 15 mins last night. I had to try hard not to push myself so I’ll need to gradually build up to heavier weights as at the mo 3-4 kgs is my max so I don’t trigger my back pain again.
#4 Change my eating habits
This is one goal that I am actually getting there with, I’m not a complete ‘clean’ eater but I have increased my fruit & veg intake and as a family we are all eating healthier. I have completely stopped buying biscuits & crisps which the teenager wasn’t happy about but instead I’ve been home baking. There is still sugar in home baked cookies etc but at least I can add ingredients such as oats & raisins which is much better for them than sitting eating a pack of Jammy Dodgers!
#5 Build my self-confidence
I’ve still got a way to go with my self confidence but I’m getting there, and this blog has as much a part to play as going to the gym. It’s given me more confidence to tweet people & interact more, plus I’ve had a lot of support for my anxiety & with A’s developmental issues which has really helped me to build confidence in ‘real life’ situations too. Without some of the lovely people on Twitter I wouldn’t even make it out of the house some day!
So there’s my little update, I’ve still got a long way to go but I’m on the right track
